NOW Bookcasting: Policeman Bluejay

In 1906 L. Frank Baum wrote, and his publisher Reilly & Britton published, a set of six tales for young children, called The Twinkle Tales after their little-girl protagonist. He wrote the books under the pseudonym "Laura Bancroft". The six books were issued in separate chapter books, but later collected into a volume entitled Twinkle and Chubbins, which Uvula Audio has bookcast for you here previously. The series was a hit; Reilly & Britton sold 40,000 copies of the little books in a short time. Such commercial success justified a sequel: Baum took his Policeman Bluejay character from the Twinkle Tale "Bandit Jim Crow" and cast him in a separate novel, to be issued the following year. The novel is also known as Babes in Birdland. In the book, Twinkle and Chubbins are changed into skylarks by an evil sorceress and Policeman Bluejay helps them survive.
